Cleaning your Patio

DIY Tip of the Day!

You've got a few options when it comes to cleaning your patio or driveway. Yearly cleaning is a good practice and will help maintain the look of concrete, stone and pavers. It will eliminate mold, moss, mildew and grease, which discolor and stain your patio, making it look old and neglected.  Even if your patio has seen better days these tips will help give it the face lift it needs.

First sweep any loose debris from the surface then use a mild cleaning agent, such as Glaze-N-Seal's Neutral Cleaner, diluted with water and scrub the surface. For new patios this should be fairly easy, but for patios with more set in stains you may need to use a stronger cleaner or have it power washed.

A couple tips for keeping your patio clean:

  • Seal your patio once it's clean and dry to prevent stains from penetrating the surface and re-seal the patio every 2-3 years to maintain the level of protection.
  • If your patio is in heavy shade, prune back trees to allow light onto the surface. This will make it more difficult for mold and mildew to develop.
  • Clear leaves from your patio. If left on the surface they collect water and dirt creating stains.

Follow these tips and your patio will look new for years to come!
